Bat Too Big?!
« on: September 07, 2022, 05:15:40 PM »

A ridiculous scenario occurring where Durham may lose 16 points because a players bat didnt go through the gauge.

You couldnt make this up. Not only do Durham get shafted but sending out the message that institutionalised racism is worthy of a lesser points deduction than having too much tape on your bat. Utterly shameful.

Where does the blame lie? With the player? Coach? Sponsor?

Derbyshire lost points in the RL cup after the player had too much tape on the bat so didnt fit through the gauge.

Responsibility must lie with the player! The rules are there, check your gear. No excuses

Was there tape on the bat?  I'm looking at some pictures and I don't see tape on any of the bats he is using?  Hard to tell from this one

If there's no tape on it, a pro player could fairly assume that a bat made for him should fit through a gauge as it leaves the factory.
If a couple wraps of tape makes the difference then it's a bit of a grey area.  Surely nobody puts more tape on with the intention of making the bat bigger?

It would appear that there is no grey area in the rules, as it has to fit through the gauge with or without legal protective coverings.  Surely not worth that many points though.

It was the Derbyshire lad that had too much tape on his.

Guessing Maidstone was just to big.

The gauge is wider to allow for tape/coverings. Was it too wide or was ot the spine height that was the issue? Either way, you'd think a pro would check that kind of thing but then so should his sponsor.

Wonder if said player would consider selling his over sized bat :)

An illegal/oversized pro bat eh? Isn't that the CBF holy grail? Imagine if it had Maddison in sharpie on the toe! 😆

"Derbyshire were docked two points after Mattie McKiernan's bat failed a measurement test in a Royal London Cup game last month."

Sounds to me like every side in the world needs a new role of Kit badger.

Wouldnt mind checking bats through the gauge, doing minor repairs, knocking in, cleaning up. Sounds like the perfect job.

I hate that this rule is a thing. Couldnt possibly let batters use bigger bats but by all means bring the boundary in 20 yards like they did with The Hundred.

Unless you're playing professional cricket I wouldn't worry yourself about it! 🤣
