Thanks for the video link. Somehow I seemed to have missed this video despite subscribing to GN youtube account.

Very interesting because it gives a slightly different description of the intention of knocking a bat in - looking to lift the pressed fibres a little; to improve performance.
This seems to be opposite the oft-quoted intention of 'further pressing the fibres of the face to increase the bat's hardness and resilience'.
Perhaps reflects the degree of pressing Gray Nics give their bats to make them 'almost' ready to play.

GN bats are ready to go and you are only knocking in a GN to get better performance? Hmmm... the face dents during gentle knocking of every GN I've ever had dispute that. I'm not sure the retailers would be happy to have them back either ;)

It's a nice idea in principle but it's probably fairer to say that since it is a natural material, knocking in helps compress areas which are under-pressed, possibly even from an uneven press (eg the lower third on more bowed GN's I've had).

Thoughts?

On the logic of what he says, every bat I've ever owned has been "under pressed"

Time to return them all for a refund I guess...  :D

Is it just me or they took down the video?

I hope they put up another on knocking in. Info from batmakers is highly prized, given their intimate knowledge of willow and the processes involved to make a good bat.

Come on, Gray Nics....
