Going out onto the field next season i will feel like a geriatric gladiator!  Knee pads , elbow pads , knee brace , skins tights , goggle style sports glasses , back brace ( only occasionally,  when back is tooo far gone ) , kinesiology tape covering vast expanses of my legs , back , elbow .
Ive worked out that when i bowl i slip the knee pads down to my shins...feels better . Also , i will have to get used to taking off my elbow pads /giving to umpire each over during a spell....as a spinner who sometimes bowls 15-20 overs straight that will be a right pain in the proverbial !

All of this reminds me of a bloke i played cricket with for a couple seasons when i first started grade as a junior . We were in 5th grade and the teams spinner was a 62yr old fat guy who we called 'the judge' ( he was a barrister ) . He couldn't dive or even bend down to field the ball . He would wear soccer ( sorry English folk...football ) shin guards -the hard plastic type . Whenever having to field anything off his own bowling , or at gully when fielding , he just stuck out a leg and blocked the ball with a shin . Opposition batsmen would shudder and giggle when hearing the horrible , painful sounding , noise it made , not knowing that the judge's shins were well protected . I always looked at him and thought 2 things : 1) i want to play cricket until I'm his age . 2) i wonder how old I'll be when I'll have to adopt his fielding methods . .....well , I'm getting closer , that's for sure .

Last three nets I've batted in (including the CBF net) I've been hit in the plums.
The left one is now more like a coconut and I'm walking like John Wayne!

No injuries reported this year for me which is unusual as i have earned the nickname "sicknote" at out club, however last week saw 2 finger dislocations. The first was off his own bowling - straight off to hospital to have it reset.

The second was a guy on the opposition fielding at cow and looked he jammed his finger into the deck trying to take a low catch. his little finger was pointing in 2 different directions - again straight off to hospital.

One case of torn finger ligament for me! Don't drop catches folks. Fiance panicking as it's my ring finger, 6 weeks healing time and we're getting married in 8..! At least the good news is it shouldn't stop me playing, although I can't grip a bat properly with my top hand at the moment. Fine leg to fine leg for me for the rest of the season I think.

Labral tear on left shoulder causes some discomfort while batting but otherwise I am ok playing since I throw with my right and a heavy bottom handed player.

Saturday was a fun minor injury day for me.

Had a sore Achilles for a while, but played through it every week, so that was one injury I had.

In the warm up, took one to the chin that I didn't get my hands quite up in time, as the ball slipped through my fingers from a high catch.

Still pre-game, took a finger ender that removed half my nail.

Into the game, took one to the head when 1st slip parried it upwards.

Pulled the quad running while over compensating from the bad Achilles.

Nothing major, just a lot of minor ones this week
