It's not awful.

But it's not special either.

For 400 notes I'd atleast like some character...

For me, 6 straight grains and a blemish is middle of the road mediocrity (somewhere between G1 and G2)

Grains look great but who cares about grains if a bat pings like a trampoline monkey high on caffeine!

This grain madness is just ridiculous!
For 400.00 you want grains and  trampoline ping.

And someone to carry it out to the middle.

And back to the pavilion 30 seconds later.

Even the edges are "Meh" (assume the dents aren't Kooka's fault)

Edit: Sorry for piling on the misery, I think I'm just disappointed for you!

Exactly my point - I would expect it to ping and look like a G1+ at that price. Not sure how QC let that out of the factory with a players label on it, seen far better looking SG bats at 1/3 of the price.

I'll give it a test at home with a old ball just to see if it's graded on ping.

Worse than some  SG sunny tonnys or King Cobras from the same factory that are half that price.

By grains, you mean good looking grains I take it. Why are grains so important? Do grains have any relevance to the bat's ping? Bats with ugly grains, blemishes, and knots can also ping like caffeinated monkey on a trampoline. Consumers are duping themselves and participating in (high) price racket by laying so much emphasis on grains. I say, forget grains, and grade bats on ping only.

A very average looking Grade 2 bat will do not it for that price.

If a 400 quid bat looks that poor, then it would need to ping like a nutter, make a cup of tea on demand, and pop to the Chinese whenever I fancied a stir fry to justify that price! Only then would it be a keeper!!  ;)

Take a look at the low density H4L that sold for 450. Id want something like that for the 400-450 bracket im afraid as youre paying a premium for both looks/size and performance.

Don't think we are duping ourselves rather the opposite  at 400.00 nothing wrong with  wanting good looks  grains and ping

I am talking in general terms and not just about this situation.

No bat is worth 400 GBP.

I'd happily pay 200 GBP for an ugly duckling of a bat that is big and pings like a trampoline.

They are hard and getting harder to come by and are considered desirable, I'd say that's why you pay a premium for many grains.

Maybe it is graded on performance and it is a light cleft and good size for the weight? What is the weight on this one and edges/spine/concaving

Agree that for 400, you would expect better looking but you never know until you check the ping and weight/pickup relative to size..

I take it the Kook Players bats no longer have the burnt in ' Players ' on the bottom/back?
