Hi all,

I don't know if I may have mentioned it before but I have only just started playing cricket having not played for 10+ years ;) :)

Anyway, I got started again playing social cricket at the end of last Summer and remembered why I used to love playing I am looking to put together the same sort of thing together this Summer for others.

About the team

We have a mix of people who may be looking to get back in to cricket, may have never played or might just be looking to have a fun afternoon. Ages range from 15 to 70+ and the level would therefore be reasonably low with an emphasis on having a laugh. Having said that, one lad who had never played cricket before bowled some solid overs and took two catches while the 70+ gentleman (local priest!) was successfully N.O. both matches and had line and length absolutely dialled with ball in hand :)

Last year we played 20-25 overs at Prior Park School and Downside Abbey so two very nice places to play. We hope to be able to find somewhere similar for a game or two but if you may be able to host then even better.

Opposition last year was South Stoke CC and a invitational team organised by a chap who played and now coaches with Bath CC.

We have an umpire and scorer couple from nearby Marshfield who generously gave their time last year and a willing cast of WAGs to provide teas :)

What we are looking for

A couple of 20-30 over games over the entire season would be an achievement we'd be happy with

We can travel around an hour or so and hope to be able to host a match or two but nothing is set in stone yet.

No fixed dates in mind as yet, so if you are in the area over the summer or are part of a similarly mixed level social club and fancy an extra fixture then please feel free to get in touch.

Kit-wise @procricket has already passed on some balls for practise and my hoarding means we are ok for most kit. If anyone has keeping kit or stumps going spare for not many pennies that would be appreciated but other than that I think we are pretty set

Many thanks!

Sounds like a good thing Dan! What days are you planning to play on, Sundays? Not sure I can help with fixtures as I'm without a social side at present, but with that in mind give me a shout if you need a ringer!

Cheers Ed!

Days are really open and we'll take what we can get :)

If you come across any similar sounding teams around Brizzle give me a shout and I'll get in touch with them. No idea how you judge playing level across leagues but the South Stoke team we played were the right level and a good laugh

Easton in Gordano would be the Bristol ones that spring to mind - play Sundays and midweeks, mixed level social club and a lovely bunch.

Hi Mike,

That would be great, thank you! Did you come across to the game at Downside Abbey last Summer that was played as soon as torrential rain had stopped?

I think those guys were a good level for us and all were really friendly. Any team that heckles each other as well as the opposition is good in my book :) They would have comfortably beaten us were it not for a 25 and retire rule (not sure what I think about that) but with that rule in it was a bit closer. Hopefully we can give better opposition this time around.

If you did play I was the opening bat that forgot a box and had to run off to find it  :( :)

Being really dim... where are you guys based? Google suggest Klive is a live event venue in South Korea and that may be a bit far :) Could be a goer if you are closer than that, thanks!

Kilve vs Klive ... oops :) interestingly my phones auto correct changed "kilve to "oil exports". Time for a new phone I think!

Afternoon Dan, we're a Bristol based side that play mainly Sunday games (generally 35 or 40 overs) but also have a sister t20 midweek side. A fair few of our players are back playing the game after 10/15 years out, also had our fair share of guys that have taken up the game with varying degrees of success.

I think we should have a Sunday or two free if you'd like to arrange a Sunday game, alternatively the midweek chaps may have a free date or two.

Either way, feel free to get in touch.
