My season is getting worse. I have played 2 and a half games so far, and I just found out that I might miss the next 7 weeks due to an Art Exhibition. It it states in my contract that the artist MUST attend at the weekends (Damn small print).  Hope the weather is nice in August!!!

It was sketchy for the first 6-8 overs Tom, I rode my luck! Love those softs, might have to get another pair of the sausage gloves before they aren't available any more!!

We posted 260/4 on a pancake of a track. I got 32. Bowled them out for 120. And I took 2 catches. Overall a good day out. 9 wins from 9. Next week though we have 6 out. We only have 14 members!

Decent day today but unfortunately resulted in a reverse for us. We batted first on a decent track - opening up I felt pretty good - my partner st the other end however fell 4 balls into the first over he faced. Myself and the number 3 put on 85 before I was out caught for a decent 40 then number 3 shortly followed and we ended up posting 223 which was maybe 20 shy. They started positively but we dispatched their premier batsmen with the score at 70-1 (he scored 1400 runs last season) and we were feeling good - another wicket fell and we then seemed to ease off. 4 missed chances be that dropped catches or missed stumping or missed run outs - meant that they knocked it off 3 down in 39/48 overs. Oh well. There's always tomorrow.

Our 2nd XI conceded again and with no communication from our 1st XI skipper, I put myself in the player pool. Yesterday I did have the separate offer to play in a different league but that was away to a club with dreadful teas and even worse umpire.

Anyhow the team I finally connected with lost the toss and were invited to bat first. I went in No.7 at 60-5 and I was out for 32 on 115. That to most people might not sound an awful lot but when you've not reached double figures all season (Saturdays), believe me, it feels damn good.

Interestingly this week's hot topic (how to play very slow bowling) was very relevant as the opposition skipper served up just this type of delivery but I got all of my boundaries against him. Just waited for something in my hitting zone and made sure it hit the fence. Got out in the 43rd over, stumped when trying to force the scoreboard along but I fell to a more orthodox off spinner who clearly saw me advance so fired down a wider delivery. Bit of a calculated gamble because the opposition wicketkeeper wasn't too tidy but on this occasion was up to the task

Defending 115 (2 juniors were then out in the same over as me), the wicket demanded bowling a full length but I felt my new team-mates bowled a bit too short. As I had a decent bat, I wasn't really expecting a bowl but at 82-1, the skipper kindly gave me the ball and I picked up 3 wickets for 10 runs off 6 overs. Didn't change the course of the match but did add a little bit of late drama.

Match once again played in great spirit by both sides and best team won on the day.

Batted first, team posted 201-6
Opener carried his bat for 67* and our number 7 made a quickfire 43.

In response we bowed them out for 140.
I took 3-35 off 8, with our 15 year old office taking 3-13.

Good day for my side and we're now hopefully safe from the threat of relegation.

My personal target for the rest of the season is to win the bowling awards for my side (3rd XI), and be the overall wicket taker in my club!

Top win yesterday, played first team for the first time this season. Skipper won the toss and put the oppo into bat on their wicket which has always been low scoring and 130 is normally a good total.
After some good bowling early on they started scoring freely aided by some poor fielding from us and they took the score to 80-1 at 16 overs, our slow left armer came on from one end and our 1st change seamer from the other, the left armer took 5-4 off 6 overs and the seamer grabbed 4 to bowl them out for 99.
I was then told I was number 4 but as the oppo were walking out one of our openers felt ill so I opened instead. Put on 49 for the first wicket before I lost my partner for 25, I fell a few overs later for 21 and our number 3 and 4 finished the job as we chased it comfortably inside 23 overs for 2 wickets.

By the way @Vitas Cricket the Hellfire Jack bought is rather tasty and went well

Was that to preserve his average on a dodgy pitch, or was there more tea to eat?
