Salman Butt is a fine one to preach about the "spirit of the game"!

Mankads are always the best, and the fact that this one has Salman Butt moaning about the spirit of the game makes this the best Mankad, and therefore the best thing that has ever happened in cricket.

Love it.

Kudos to the bowler for managing to take off the bails without his knee exploding into a million fragments, that looked pretty painful.

Laws have been changed to make the onus to be on the batsman to be in their ground.

There is no issue with this other than the batsman being careless.

Why not to back up with your bat in the wrong hand, pretty basic stuff!

purely the batsmen trying to steal a yard

no sympathy at all

stay in your crease until ball delivered its not rocket science

Correct me if I'm wrong but even the new law says the bowler cant pull out of a delivery swing to run someone out

If the batsmen is watching and starts moving as the front foot lands but does not leave the crease until the ball is just about to leave the hand its all good

Batsmen should not be allowed to gain that extra half a yard from leaving the crease before the ball has the left the hand

I had someone once who would run the last 4 yards with me and by the time my front foot landed he was 1 yard out of the crease let alone when I released the ball

he was warned then he laughed and our skipper told him we are serious and will uphold the appeal

I had the same, but they were embarrassed everytime they tried to run me out i was still in the crease, because arm + bat had me standing a yard out of the crease (the correct way to back up)

Quite right, you can't complete your action then run someone out. Perfectly reasonable way to stop people stealing distance, this kind of thing will only happen for a while before batsmen adjust their behaviour.

Whatever the differing views, I've never understood the warning thing? You don't get warned for stumpings do you, which is after all exactly the same thing.

it was always a gentlemen's agreement thing but I never had a problem with giving a warning

most I don't mind as its inches but its the ones that were out of the crease completely before I bowled that irked me

I don't like Mankading. I think it's underhand and sly. But the only way you can be certain you'll never fall victim is to back up legally.

Shame, but it saves a lot of hassle and bad feeling.

I would always issue a warning before actually claiming to run someone out like that. On second offence then the batsmen is fair game.

Stay in your crease or stop crying.

spirit of the game tosh. If a batsman has left his crease early, he's cheating not the bowler, running him out. I've done it several times, and i didn't warn the idiot who was 2 yards down the pitch before i even got in my delivery stride.

I also find it off putting when I am bowling and the non-striker is in my peripheral vision being half way down the fecking track!

I am all for it, but clearly advise the batsman and umpire prior to doing it.
