Title: Trad Trialists
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on May 22, 2018, 08:08:24 PM
Ok little update on this, Iíve got 3 pre-production samples in carbon fibre that Iíd like to invite any CBF members who are keen to get their hands on and head into one.

(https://s9.postimg.cc/gam7zuu2n/D4_BB6592-8_AC3-4_B9_B-_ADF3-_DF22_E0_A19_B9_C.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/image/vw3jjt60r/)

They will be £250 each inc U.K. delivery & VAT and you can select the colour you desire. They come with the air liner and a fixed position titanium grille as with the other RAW models.

Please drop me a line if genuinely interested, I can provide some pics of the black one Iíve produced for myself if youíd like any insight into the finished look. Part of the process is to wear and use them and provide feedback about it for future development and the next interaction. (You will also be able to acquire this next interaction at a much reduced price if desired as a Trialist).

Cheers

Tom

Look great Tom, could be on to a winner if lighter than the current Masuriís. Definitely interest from me if they hit production 👍🏻

Any chance of a cloth covered finish on these, Tom?

Yes thatís an option for the final product for those yearning for that traditional look 👍

Weight wise they should be very lightweight too, hard to say exact weight yet if adding cloth etc but hopefully 700g or below if all goes to plan.

Are they £250 just because they care carbon fibre?? Just thinking that the price point is very very high compared to the Masuri & Shrey lids

Personally I really like the new design but that cost would really put me off

Thatís the price point for a carbon fibre shell Raw model yes, itís more cost effective to develop the carbon fibre model 1st in terms of tooling prior to going down the more affordable plastic shell version as this requires an Injection moulding tool that isnít cheap!

Carbon component = more expensive raw material  but cheaper tool
Plastic component shell = cheaper raw material but more expensive tool

If I can Pin down that the shape/size and fit is right then Progressing onto the more affordable models in the next step.

Just out of curiosity - How hard was it for you to persuade yourselves into building a helmet into a regular (popular/common) shape?
Or do you think its part of evolution? I myself use an ayrtek and love my helmet.
Best wishes on this new type.

Yeh took alot of persuasion in terms of the wrestling in my head between why do it and should I just stick to the existing shape but this design has been on my PC for a while but I've never pressed the button to put it into any larger scale production. Whilst the original (Rad) helmet will always be a staple of the Ayrtek Cricket brand (and what we are recognised for) I cant help but feel im cutting off a large % of the market by not offering somethign that people who dont like the Rad model would wear by having a more traditional looking helmet whilst still integrating the Ayrtek design ethos.

In order to move the brand forward to the next stage by offering both the Trad and Rad models it will broaden my market reach (I hope!) and by using the patented air liner and EPS liners in both shell models people have options over several price points and the look to opt for something they like.

These will have the air liner so approx 53-62cm Iíd say. Be interesting to get feedback from people trying them who have different head sizes.

This is the one Iíve been using for the last few weeks, as I say not the final product as grille needs moving down slightly to marry shapes up with the mounting plate and sweep of the helmet still (As per the graphical image in the 1st post).

I like this shape a lot . Kinda ayrteky still. A little bit albiony , and a slight wee bit of masuri/shreyness going on too . This in carbon /air liner combo would be most peoples ultimate helmet. My only wish would be if you made 8 more air vent holes ( tom , you must be sick of me saying this , and ayrteks are already very breathable , but I'm going to keep at it until i annoy you into making them !  :D :D :D).
Anyway , if i didnt already have two carbon ayrteks id buy one .

Any more pics of these @Ayrtek Cricket

I've got an old Masuri that I'm keen to replace and this could be the ideal thing. Cloth covered would also be interesting to see also and I think that would help open up the market.

Thanks to those that have been in touch to back this already, as such it seems demand for a raw carbon fibre one is such that I have pressed ahead with a new mould for it.

Lead time is approx 30 days but this will offer a carbon fibre finish to be offered along with the fully finished vents that are shown in the graphic.

If anyone else wishes to get their name down for the first batch of these then please drop me a line.

Cheers

Tom

Hi Tom, just to reconfirm, the shape of the helmet (and vents) will be as in the first post? May not be able to get into the first batch but I will be ordering one soon as I had emailed.

Samples underway as the tooling took a bit longer to make than anticipated due to going for a higher grade of Alu for longevity.

Looking forward to seeing how they look shortly!

My order will be coming in soon; would like to see the final product asap.

Have you decided on the prices (carbon fibre) and will there be both steel and titanium grilles available?
Title: Re: Trad Trialists
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on August 06, 2018, 01:34:59 PM
Typically they have only come with a Titanium grille as the steel would counteract the point of using the carbon fibre shell to minimise the weight.

698g so slightly heavier (60-80g) than the Rad Raw model but there is obviously some variation in design between the 2 shells.

Slightly off topic but has it ever been demonstrated that the 'mounting plate' (masuri, shrey etc.) provides any further rigidity over using a grille fixed into one position with screws.
Title: Re: Trad Trialists
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on September 02, 2018, 09:36:31 PM
Horses for courses and different designers going about attaching the grille in different methods.

My take (as well as GMís) is that in the event the grille needs removing from the helmet shell to access the players airways without moving their head is to have nut caps that are able to be unscrewed and the grille taken off. Other helmets would require the location and use of wire cutters to remove the grille.

Hi Matt, yes sorry been a manic few days since they all arrived and Iím in the process of working out the rear holes and grille hole locations to provide the correct gap between peak and grille and ensure the liner sits correctly once fitted.

Obviously as itís the first batch this has taken some time to establish as I donít want to get it wrong and end up with a wasted shell as they have all sold!

Iíve also had to order longer bolts for the chin straps as the shell is a different thickness to the Rad shell with the underpeak section when fitted. These should arrive on Thurs/Fri so I can fit the chin straps and get them out the door.

Sorry for radio silence, trying to juggle a 3 year olds birthday tomorrow and the family duties with working life!

Yes, producing the plastic shell version will bring the price points down but the tooling up fees are considerably more than the carbon fibre one.....crowdfunding maybe an option to explore as a way of getting it off the ground and to market.

Realistically yes, as a small 1 man company and having fairly recently brought the cricket side of the company off the parent company to run as my own entity Iíd need some assistance in getting it up and running in the plastic model.

However the price would obviously be cheaper to both manufacture and therefore purchase in plastic (as with the other range).
