Title: David Warner In The News
Post by: InternalTraining on October 27, 2018, 03:29:06 PM
So, this happened...

http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/25094376/david-warner-walks-mid-innings-alleged-sledge (http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/25094376/david-warner-walks-mid-innings-alleged-sledge)

Can't say he is much liked by his fellow cricketers in AUS.

Anyone else laugh whilst reading that :D. - Years of abusing and sledding others - and he walks off the field from someone sledging him back.

Must be the most hated cricketer to play the game. Still enjoy watching him bat

Granted everyone hates Warner for being a fool but I found it a tad embarrassing that the brother of the late Phillip Hughes was the once taunting Warner. Supposedly Warner and Phillip Hughes where close friends. And Warner was present in when the latter was badly hurt and subsequently passed away. Seems petty

Why was he allowed back to the crease?

Umpire's discretion apparently...

Warner is not a fool he is vile sledger and a cheat. Philip Hughes death was a chance for the Australian cricket team to re think their ethos and the way they play the game. Despite words at the time to this effect they chose to go in the complete opposite direction. Warner has had a big influence on the team until very recently.

I hope Australia change, they need to but can only do it thru actions not words. It's up to them.

Warner....unlike Smith and Bancroft could find himself in permanent exile .I don't think the players or public want him representing them.

Could be wrong.....it's hard to make an opinion sat in London, but that's mine.

I don't hate him for being a fool! I don't even think he's a fool! I think he's a total little squirt and bully! He needs bringing down a peg or two.
Mouthy little man syndrome.

Thing is, this was a chance for Warner to man up. Try his it's off on the field, say his piece if needs be, then take the bloke for a beer after.

But no. He can dish it out, but cries like a baby when it comes back. Hypocritical, disgraceful.

In low level club cricket. Meaningless

However, is Phil Hughes brother got nothing better to do than sledge ??

Think this one runs a little deeper than a simple sledge on a Saturday afternoon, a lot of emotion here.

There is a LOT of bad blood between the Hughes family and NSW players, of which Warner was one. From memory don't believe the evidence given in court was honest and feel some blame must be apportioned to NSW for the tactics used on the day Hughes died.

I was wondering about the Hughes' angle. That's pretty bad then!

Not sure how, as the article suggests, it was common sense to let him come back.  He is the last person to be able to take offence at someone else sledging on the cricket pitch.

Warner' s reputation in the game is ruined but it does make you wonder how some of the players from previous generations would be viewed if judged by today's standards.  Warner' s behaviour is appalling but it is nothing compared to the cheating, hypocrisy and bullying - both of players and officials - that Grace and Bradman practiced as a matter of course but both have been subjected to a widewashing exercise after their careers came to an end.

I suppose the exposure is a lot closer these days, and cricket as a game is on its backside,,,,total tools like warner do it little good with their on field antics
I personally don’t think warner is the only one guilty of this sort of thing,,,it’s endemic in a lot of teams and a lot of sports
It’s been allowed to escalate, and become the norm

The only ones who can change this , are the ones that run sports

This

We’ve all said Warner ‘deserves it’ but in reality.. whoever says anything is equally as guilty however they are let off. Clean the game up or it’ll continue to go down . Simple solution really

To explain: David Warner walking off in protest at being sledged is like a boxer walking out of the ring complaining that his opponent has punched him in the face

Reports suggesting Phil Hughes brother used Phil in one of his sledges. For an Aussie that’s low, using your dead brother to sledge someone. Pretty pathetic

As for the aussies changing, Clarke tried to change the sledging culture post Hughes death but that didn’t last long.

If that didn’t change anything nothing will. I see smith and warner both walking straight back in the team.

Hughes allegedly said to him “you are one of the guys responsible for my brothers death, you are a disgrace” according this this https://twitter.com/skynewsaust/status/1056161454007607296?s=21 (https://twitter.com/skynewsaust/status/1056161454007607296?s=21)

No one really comes out of this great. Must be a tough thing to hear but wasn’t it Warner allegedly who was leading the comments to Bairstow in the ashes about his dad’s suicice?

You must be kidding?!!!! They brought up his dad's suicide? That's extreme!

I remember that being said (about Bairstow) That's supposedly when (some of) the Aussies were at their worst for sledging.
But that's half the problem! Even if DW is doing his best to turn over a new leaf and become a better person, the damage was done over the past few years! He has previous and people he has sledged and been nasty to (which is probably a generious number of people he has played against) do have long memories!

^ To redeem himself, he should become a poster-boy for anti-sledging.

I believe the line reported in the papers were that if I had a useless ginger (No Swearing Please) for a son, I'd have killed myself, too, and constantly asking bairstow if he was mentally weak like his dad, or bottle or like his dad, etc etc.

Pretty standard stuff from an aussie. Literally nothing is off limits.

Yes.. cricketers are famed for their ‘bottle’.. maybe take a trip and get a taste of IEd’s, snipers and having mates die in front or in your arms.. Cricket doesn’t take bottle.. it’s just all BS people dream up to excuse being rude to others when the social norm is that they’d not be able to do it
