Post by: Parv on April 01, 2019, 01:57:12 PM

Cheers

Yeh i have done that. Many that claim to be performance look more like their asian counterparts. There is one very good one but it doesn't look like it has too many more runs left in it.

In my experience a laminate has no extra performance than a regular bat. Ive had 2 so my experience is limited but I got told by someone in the know that a good standard bat offers the same in performance as a laminate.

My twin brother has a TK laminate. The performance is top quality. I had one very good H4l bat that matched it, but its more the longevity. I have had 3 £300 + bats for his one.  Although maybe I just play worse shots ahaha

I'm not quite sure I understand the attraction of the one on Ebay (that doesn't mean I'm not watching it!). I thought the idea of the laminate bats was to bond an ugly low density cleft to a nice grainy bit of willow so you get a huge light bat that really pings. Or do I have it wrong? Is there some other Keeley magic involved that I've missed?

A laminate bat is usually made to increase ping by glueing a thin strip of willow onto a cleft have seen  one which consisted  of 3 pieces of willow glued together

There are essentially two types of laminate, for performance or for size/looks. If you use the search function here you'll likely find heaps of into on them.

Price would be £215, can be made from same cleft or 2 separate

Had a few laminates in my time and they have all pinged really well, mine have mostly been two pieces as appose to a face glued on the front.

@Six Sixes Cricket Iím interested in one, was just wondering where you sourced them from ?

The ones I have seen have a very good face and then the back is very average. Is there a benefit from having it made from the same cleft?

I'm not an expert but i imagine part of the benefit is that you can either dry the back part more or use a lower density cleft.

I believe the first laminates (not performance ones) were made to get as many pretty faces as possible from  a G1 cleft, and then use uglier clefts for the back part.

Any one got an idea who makes these? claims to be UK made, but pricing seems to be far too good to be true

Not really that much cheaper than Chase's though.

As Dan says, looks like a bit of a garden shed operation. Was sure i saw some from them for under 100 on ebay before, they might be worth a gamble.

If those ones above are all 3 for £170, then that's ridiculously cheap and I can't see them being made in England from start to finish.

My understanding though, with these laminates, is that there were very few people who knew how to make them in a way which enhanced performance. So I'd bear that in mind when looking.

Ah, missed that the price was for all 3 bats!

Cost is dependent on what grade is been used on the both sides, front doesn't necessarily be grade 1

And are these bats actually illegal for match play? How could the umpire test it? A laminate gauge?

By pointing to the joint I guess. Thought if it was made from one cleft then even that might be tough to spot.

Yes they are and even harder to spot covered in stickers as for umpires  they are usually clueless always remember I once said to one he's using an illegal laminate bat he responded with what's that.

@Parv I can get you a performance laminate if your still looking.

Are you still able to source one of these, put it off last season in the end, but keen to get one now? Ive heard after the new regs potentially harder to find

As I understand the new laws, laminates are legal for junior players playing in junior games (defined I believe as Type D bats) but whether that will mean this type of bat coming back to the market I don't know
