Title: Wicket Keeping

Hello,

I am a weekend cricketer and keeper for the team.  I need to pointers on how do I practice for keeping when the only time that team mates are available is few minutes before the game.  The other thing that I have noticed is that when keeping up to stumps I have a tendency of taking a step back instead of going across.  I think the step back is lack of practice and fear of getting hit.

I am based in US, so majority of the time folks just practice indoors which is batting and bowling but nothing for fielding  :(.

Regarding taking steps back, this needs to be a conscious change, you have to force yourself to not step back, this can be done using a set of stumps led down behind you so you have to move laterally and not move backwards. Regarding how to practice - catch a lot of balls, keeping and catching go hand in hand, practice your movements by yourself (set some stumps up and just move side to side to stop you stepping backwards. Other than that unless you can find a mate practicing keeping by yourself is very tough.
