Title: Umpiring standards
Post by: jayralh on August 17, 2019, 07:26:17 AM
Got up bit early today so watched bit of SL vs NZ last wicket stand. I was shocked by umpire's decision given out for last wicket. Correct me if I am wrong but that was clear no ball for over stepping but given LBW even after reviewing by third umpire.

What a joke professional umpiring has been recently. I wont complain in our league matches given none of us is trained for umpiring.

de Silva to Patel, OUT, given lbw! Ajaz will review, of course. But that looks plumb. An arm ball, trapping him in front of the stumps on the front foot. Close on the no ball. But he's got just the tiniest bit of heel behind the line. No bat on it. And it's all three reds.
AY Patel lbw b de Silva 14 (23b 1x4 0x6) SR: 60.86

I am not sure that umpiring has got any worse, it's just that technology can now definitively show that a decision is right or wrong.  Watch any rerun from the 80s or 90s and see how bad done of the umpiring is
