Title: How Much are your 2018 Club Shirts?
Post by: FattusCattus on April 05, 2018, 10:16:35 AM
I've just seen our club shop for this year  http://www.tylers-sportswear.co.uk/Catalogue/Sports-Webshops/Cricket-Clubs/Chertsey-CC (http://www.tylers-sportswear.co.uk/Catalogue/Sports-Webshops/Cricket-Clubs/Chertsey-CC)

senior shirts are £26.50 and £31.75!!!!!!!!!!! This seems frikkin' expensive to me!!!  Does anyone know what these sorts of thing cost for the club to buy and what is everyone else paying for their kit?

I think it will depend on what shirts you are buying, some are quite expensive...

At my old club they were 25, but the kicker was that the postage was nearly a tenner and they always arrived several weeks late.
Think my previous club subsidised them so they were 15?

Using all rounder for adidas shirts, long sleeve are £35, short are £30. Include embroidered club logo, printed sponsor on chest.

Jumpers are £40 and £35.

We use surridge, think the short sleeve is roughly £25 and the long sleeve around £31, jumpers are roughly the same the one plus side we have is that one of the lads parents have their own alterations/embroidery firm so we get them to stitch the badge and place the sponsor on for next to nothing

Weíve got the top grade of surridge shirts, £35 and £37. But that includes embroidery and 3 sponsors hence the bumped priced.

The quality is worth it imo, same grade as the pros and weíve got our sponsors on 3 yr contracts so not asking for a new shirt to be bought each year

We have a club shop with Serious Cricket/Sport and ours are £25 including Club embroidery - delivery on top of £5.

Shirts are decent but not outstanding i would say.

We also do a deal for any new members to the club get a free playing shirt and cap if they pay the subs in full before the 1st league game - that way everyone goes out on the pitch looking the same with the sponsors logo etc...

Ours are from Serious Cricket this year

£27.99 for short sleeve
£32.99 for long sleeves

That's with our club logo, the main sponsor on the front and a sponsor on one sleeve.

Ok - so the shirt prices aren't that much out of line then. It just felt a bit steep as we pay £120 annual membership and £8 per game, and the shirts are not included in that.

We pay £10 as they are subsidised. We have 1 sponsor.
My daughters club have 9 sponsors on their shirt. Her shirt cost £26 and bobbled after a couple of washes.
I would have thought that the more sponsors you had the cheaper the shirt would be. Clearly I'm mistaken. The more sponsors you have the more you pay to advertise for them. Rip off

Printing a logo is down to size, and how many colours used. Cost is from £3 per logo for even the smallest, upto £4.50. So 1 colour across the chest could be £3 and 1 on the sleeve £3

From the other end of the spectrum, we've been trying to find a good, UK supplier of clothing that can do embroidery/printing too. Looking at these prices, they seem pretty steep - so for 2019, we're looking to bring out teamwear that's sourced and embroidered/printed in the UK (to keep lead times to a minimum - It's one of the most frustrating things is the lead times of clothing being made in the sub continent) next year. We'd definitely be able to do these at a cheaper rate (for a standard s/s shirt with embroidered logo and printed sponsor) than pretty much most mentioned on here.

We're using Masuri this year through NXT Sports (http://teamwear.nxt-sports.com (http://teamwear.nxt-sports.com))

The leisure/training kit is really nice, great quality and fit with embroidered badges. Caps are Beechfield - best I've ever worn.

However the playing shirts are really quite sh*t - they fit badly, the material is cheap and the badges are screenprinted.

I always consider club kit to be a reasonable investment as I literally live in it all summer long. Our playing shirt is £28 with no sponsor logos.

Pretty much, especially as most sponsors will only be paying a small amount, £50 to £100 say. Which doesn't cover much if a club orders 60 shirts. As eluded to above, the cost of adding 9 printed sponsors logos would be in the region of £20 - £35 per shirt, never mind the actual cost of the shirt itself.

I bet the margin on cricket clothing
is decent. High overheads and length of manufacture must make it a  tricky business to run though, given how many clothing companies have disappeared.

Ooooh seems a lot of others use Surridge here - I've just bitten the bullet and bought a long sleeve playing top and trousers as I really like the styling.

There's nowhere round here in Somerset that stocks a decent amount of clothing brands to take a look at/try on so it's a case of buying blind most of the time.

Looking forward to seeing what they look like in the flesh.

Club shirts will always be an interesting topic. Some include them in membership fees, some clubs contribute towards the costs, some have sponsors pay / contribute and for the other unfortunate souls players have to pay the full cost.

Have known a few different methods, personally anytime you change a sponsor its good to include them in the annual fees, everyone is in the same kit, plus its a good way to make sure people pay annual fees!

We have masuri kit also, only bought the Tech fleece but had to return it as it was too small.

I am usually a medium but the arms were short and the jacket was just a bit too snug for me. I didn't exchange the item, just for a refund instead as i though a large would be too big.

I play in Canada and that is really a standard rate.

On top of this, I have joined few other teams;

Morning league, for 25 overs games: 170 GBP
Another league, 50 overs games: 115 GBP

That is at least 665 GBP. Wow! I just realized!

We're paying:

Short Sleeve £32
Long Sleeve £37

They're masuri (through NXT), not had one from there before so interested to see the quality when they arrive.

Interesting to see that other clubs are also what I'd deem to be relatively expensive, especially given the rates of subs.

Our subs are £120, then £8 match fees

I thought the point of sponsors was to make it cheaper for the players, not to add cost to their clothing. I suppose it depends on the amount the sponsor gives the club but it still seems a bit wrong to me.

They could certainly be cheaper, my club uses them as well. Obviously there are costs for embroidery and printing.

I was my uni ultimate club merchandiser this year. For unprinted shirts we had costs of about $18.50 per shirt, and then for each screen $3, so with club logo on the front and squad number on the back, the costs were $24.50 from memory.

The previous year we used a company called JS Sports who print up club shirts (club badge and sponsors logo) for the same price as they sell blank shirts.  Personally I think that the mark up All Rounder charge to print them is ridiculous

I agree, it does nothing to encourage less affluent families to participate. I find the bigger the club th more sponsors, that leads to higher prices.
At least the first XI have (no match fees, paid overseas, access to free indoor facilities) delete as applicable.
Support you local team, pay a tenner for your shirt.

Especially when you consider there are 60 juniors in each individual age group from u5 - u13 so near on 400 kids.
(That is serious fund raising. 400x120= £48,000 and they are all buying shirts, caps and hoodies too)

This really annoys me. Most other sports have a bag of team shirts, a club that was genuinely interested in nurturing local talent would use this system. It works well in football and many kids from a wide range of backgrounds can afford to participate. As it stands we will only be able to pick from the middle classes as these are the kids who can afford to play, and this significantNtly reduces the chances of finding the next great player. Get to the AGM and vocalise your thoughts. Our sport will die unless the youth take it up

Short Sleeve £36.97 plus £3.49 initials plus postage, long sleeve £41.97 plus £3.49 plus postage which I think is £5.99, and you don't get free postage at all on team wear.

I play five or six games a year, and the if the sponsors change you have to get a new shirt for league matches (which are the only matches I play).  Also, I have at least a short sleeve jumper with the current sponsors, so that's another £45 plus.

What do you think my opinion is ?

We secured a main sponsor a couple of seasons ago after a number of seasons without. The club decided to use some of the sponsorship to offset the cost of shirts so each member received a new shirt with the new sponsors on when they paid their annual membership. If players subsequently needed to replace their shirt, then they have to purchase that themselves at £25 (our current sponsorship deal ends at the end of this season). New players joining the club get a shirt included in their membership.

To be honest, I think I am going to call it a day with my club if I have to get another shirt etc.  Itís just not worth it.  If they relax the rules then I may change my mind.  One person demanding them stump up for a shirt is not really on when everyone else is in the same boat.  Thatís not my style.  Iíd rather walk.

Is it a club rule that you to wear their shirt? If so Iíd tell them to do one, Iím sure plenty of others feel agreived so set up a protest and get everyone who agrees to wear a blank shirt. Militant.
