Just a different one as opposed to finishing with sand paper.  I finish using wire wool (aka steel wool) after using my finest sand paper.  Buffs out a lovely finish.

I used grits ranging from 80 - 400. But never jumped more than 2 grits along the way. Did the job really nicely and have to agree with arsenal123, finished it off with wire wool. Came out really nicely with no scratches at all.

It all depends on the quality of the sandpaper and what kind of sandpaper.  I use an aluminium oxide sandpaper as it gives a better finish and doesn't clog up as easily.

Ps. If your after a perfect finish then don't miss a grit...that's how scratches are left. I've also experiment with wire wool but always left tiny scratches when looking at the bat against the light.

But what do I know...

Depends on workload but I'd say 2/3 weeks. Shame Alex isn't around much, he could have let you know what stage it was at.

Steelwool seems to leave a greyish residue on my bats. Anyone else notice this?
Some fine steel dust seems to get caught in the tiny scratches/imperfections on the bat face. Stopped using steelwool because of this, use sandpaper grits 80,100,150,180,220,320 (a bit OCD, oh well)
