Why do Asian bats hit the bigger sixes
« on: August 11, 2013, 09:01:46 PM »

I went to a six a side tournament today, various bats on show as you would expect, the Asian bats CA, MB, SS seem to hit a longer and bigger six.

Is it a coincidence?

biggest sixes I've seen hit came from a d&p

the midweek league i play in, a lot of asain bats hit big sixes. but id put that more down to the batsmen using them. than the actual make of bat.

Might have something to do with the weight of them as a lot of Asian lads use heavy bats that's why they can swing hard but don't have a clue against the moving ball

Personally it's all down to timing because Sobers hit massive sixes without the bats of today

I find I hit bigger sixes when I keep my shape and try and time the ball rather then just try and smack it as hard as I can

To be fair I've hit bigger ones with an English bat

It's batsmen that hit sixes, not the bats. Most of the guys who hit big sixes in my club have one or two things in common; they keep things simple and have played Tapeball cricket at some point. For those that don't know what this is, it's a tennis ball wrapped in a layer of insulation tape. Batting against this can help with improved bat speed and timing generally.

Typically one person's opinion. Give those batsmen a Newbery and the sixes would be as big.

Yup, have a guy who uses a CA Plus 12000 and a Newbery Thruxton, both seem to hit the sixes just as far. The guy is an incredible batsman and scored a double ton the other week in a 50 over match. Funnily enough, he has cousins who hit some of the bigger sixes, one used to use an old Kookaburra Bubble, who could hit big sixes too, and two of his other cousins use CA. I think it's more to do with the type of cricket you played, and which shots you developed and are confident in playing.

wood to weight ratio i suspect your possibly correct 100 not out due to them being bigger for the weight .

But then again batsman ability comes into it and i guess in theory only the bigger bat should hit further if all things are equal which they never will be.
