I have FINALLY moved to Birmingham. Hallelujah! Now I just need a club.

I'm in the Brindley Place area, don't want to travel too far really! Looking to have fun and play at an OK standard, as opposed to taking it too seriously like I used to.

I haven't played consistently for a couple of years, but I'm a decent batsman and was once a good leg-spinner. Strong fielder. Need some training though  :(

Happy to invite you to our nets @billyb . Half way up the warwickshire league, we are on the way up. Train at forward drive in walking distance of Brindleyplace and have players who can get you to games. We are looking for for a spinner as well. Pm me, ill happily recommend other clubs if iwe are not for you as well

As I am @Canners after 18 years at the same club - I have decided its time for a change. A number of reasons - nothing negative towards my former club - in fact the club is in the best state it has ever been in in my time but just personally feel I need a change - hopefully itll give me a kick up the bum too

I'm moving clubs based on family commitments - we moved house 3 years ago (so a 20 mile ish journey to home games) and with a couple more additions to the family last summer cutting down on travel time for the games (I get my passport stamped to play) is a must. So after 14 years at the same club and hitting 40 in a couple of weeks it's the South Yorkshire league for me

So I actually took a break from league cricket this year.  Played 2 sunday friendlies in May and haven't played since due a hamstring strain, and also as I'm well into my golf.

Might be back next year though I haven't missed playing.

Not sure if i should move after this season so would like to hear some opinions. On the one side i absolutely love the club i play at right now for the people that are there, its a good laugh at division 5 out of 10 in a good league. It is a bit lower than i should be playing standard wise, have had a lot of clubs offer places in div 1/2 sides which is why im considering it. Currently averaging about 50 in 14 games and did the same last season too, not in the best form but not awfully out of form either, also get a bowl of 7-8 overs a game and i would definitely not bowl at other clubs, because there's pies then theres the crap i put down the other end.

My pros for staying are:
Really like the club and people.
New pavillion and nets in the next 2-3 years.
Smaller club, really like knowing almost everyone at the club and you feel valued as you're an important part.

Cons:
Standard is a bit low
They are struggling to put out a consistent 1XI team, we carry at least 4 2nd teamers each game
Nobody trains, myself a home counties lad and his brother are the only 3 that ever train and only 2 of us play for the club.
That basically results in 6-7 drop catches per game, every game. Which means we lose games we should win almost every week, incredibly de-motivating as a player.
The players that join are almost always 2XI players or sunday, there really is no new 1XI players joining, ever.

Im only 20 so i know i want to and should still improve but have no intention of playing cricket at the highest level of seriousness or talent. Its very much a hobby and I like how whilst yes it is league cricket I don't need to take it incredibly seriously.

Its a difficult decision and one I am quite familiar with. Ultimately its all down to who you want to spend Saturday afternoon/evening with and what those people are like if youre team loses.
I play at a lower standard now with a number of older/larger people in the team who cannot bend down, rum or throw. I accept that is the ability of these team players (I can no longer throw and struggle to run either). But I bowl each week and Im happy to bat in the middle order to give those people who dont bowl
A good opportunity to bat. We are currently top of the table with promotion virtually guaranteed. We dont mind losing and never blame people for dropped catches or other poor play. We dont train, which I do miss, but it does mean I dont get muscle stiffness mid week.
Good luck with your decision, and its a shame to see smaller clubs continue to struggle but be upfront with your current team so they dont think youre a (No Swearing Please). Just make sure that if you leave you dont burn any bridges.

Yeah if i did leave I would most likely still play mid week T20 there and Sundays if i fancied them. Its a hard decision to make really as I've been here 3 years and really enjoyed it, when i joined i had a decent technique but was pretty poor at actually scoring runs now 3 years later I'm not getting better largely due to the standard. Theres a few clubs im considering and have played some friendlies for one of them to see if id like it.

It helps that I know most of the players from the clubs i am looking at. The reason I've not fully decided to move is that Id be a fringe 1/2s player at those clubs. They have a div 1 side where I can open the batting but know full well that at full strength id be 2s and their 2s are the same division as the current side i play for even though in my opinion their 2s are a far better side than us.
