Colts pitch lengths
« on: May 15, 2018, 11:37:05 AM »

Specifically for u10s, what lengths do county boards stipulate?

Bucks seem to say 15 yards, which seems ridiculously short, and doesn't seem to have been communicated particularly effectively. There is also an option for clubs to agree on an alternative length if they wish.

Im asking because an opponent has basically accused my mum of being a cheat- she manages the u10s at my old club, and they won a game last week and since then the opponents have been complaining about the length of the pitch, which was the ecb recommended 19 yards, emailing the club chairman with accusations and their twitter has been replying to our tweets saying about wrong pitch lengths with #nicetry and #winatallcosts. Until they emailed, and copied my mum in, we had no idea about 15yard pitches.

I know im biased and of course defensive, but I think accusing someone who would never cheat of doing so online after the fact, rather than airing concerns at the time, smacks of sour grapes and a keyboard warrior. Im not saying the club are entirely faultless, but im angry that someone who genuinely doesn't care about winning or losing but wants everyone to enjoy themselves and learn in a safe environment (mum is a teacher and has been for 30 years) is getting upset by these accusations.

Cheers guys. What is really getting to me is the suggestion that it was deliberate to get the win, and that if they we're concerned that they should have mentioned it there and then rather than attacking online.

Bucks seem to have changed regulations to 15 yards but not publicised it well, but left the option to play on longer pitches with agreement between the two sides.

Wow, a club bitter on social media at the length of a pitch in an U10s game.....really? Surely its all about the kids getting the opportunity to play, be active and socialise???

Talk about a sign of the times 😔😔

Let the kids play and enjoy it, competitive parents/adults turn so many kids away from sport with football the obvious example. I can't understand why they would take to twitter like that, quite sad really.

15 yards is better for the players.
The kids develop better technique that way and bowl with a better action rather than a lob bowling style.
Its also better for the batters as there is more pace on the ball when it reaches them rather than a trickle.
Just my opinion though
