The most cringe worthy wicket celebration ?
« on: November 03, 2018, 06:53:02 AM »

I think it has to be Imran Tahir.

Seriously, he will get the wicket of the last man when there are 100 runs required in the last over, and he will celebrate as if the opponents required 2 runs to win with six wickets in hand in the last over, and he just took a double hat-trick.

Think it's great to see his passion tbh, chap is nearly 40 and plays it like every game could be his last.

Id rather see Tahir than players like siddle or a n other bowler who runs close to the bat screaming

Interesting observation...I suspect it is due to his inability to dance so he overcompensates with his celebratory theatrics.

I agree with you although wouldn't have had Siddle down as one of the worst

Some of the Indian bowlers in the u19 WC were an absolute embarrassment!

Seen some village send offs in the cricket I've played over the years the pick being one bowler escorting my ex skipper to the boundary after dismissing him swearing the whole way.

I quite enjoyed seeing Tahir celebrate when taking wickets for Durham this season. I think it just shows he takes great enjoyment out of every wicket he takes and why shouldnt he?

The most cringeworthy one is surely any one that includes a stupid dance especially a dab. So pretty much every West Indian celebration.

To be fair I got a surrey twos player with an apparently dubious lbw decision a couple of years back and my celebration was roundly mocked!
But it was a stinking hot day and we had been in the field for 60 overs at that point

I think celebrating more as Tahir does is better (though not best when over celebrating) than some who don't just celebrate after a wicket and go about their business as if nothing happened. Can't recollect the names but have seen so many of such types in club cricket as well as in internationals. Just makes it feel so boring and as if the wicket was not worth taking at all which I dont think can ever be the case. Even if the wicket taken is the last wicket when still a 100 runs to score, a wicket always gives happiness to a bowler I would think.

Couple of other worst celebrations I can think of is
1) Hassan Ali's bomb blast type of celebration. Given that Pak hasn't had international cricket due to all that is going on in the country related to security, to have someone celebrate as if a bomb has gone off I am not sure is a good idea
2) the Nagin dance of ban players - for some reason it seems very disrespectful to the batsmen, not sure why but it feels that way unlike other types of celebrations..

He gave YJB a hell of a send off when Yorkshire played Essex earlier this year.  Which Jonny gave back to him when we came back from 50 all out to win...
