Winter Training
« on: January 18, 2019, 05:46:40 PM »

Well its that time of year and the build up to the season seems to be in full flow - we are having a couple of sessions a week with our academy now - had some great fun working on balance the other week -

Starting early and getting in to things in full swing by the looks of it.

I'd love to know what you pull out of the 2D video or if its just a fancy stickman

Haha - the stick man is a big part of what we are doing - by creating the stickman it enables us to measure certain elements so we can see if the lads are making the progress they would like - so for example in the example we have in twitter we can measure how braced the front leg is and measure the acceleration of the back hip through the contact phase.....

Similarly we can measure the hand speed through the contact phase for batters for example...

Its a fair bit of work and we tend to have four coaches for eight lads on these nights but its our investment into our own

That's a lot of work for club coaching! I work in Motion Capture myself, so I was wondering if the amount of effort involved going through the video is worth it for the outputs you can get or if it more an exploratory thing to see what the possibilities are? Very impressive you've taken on the challenge :)

Its definitely not exploratory - been using it for over ten years now!   Its certainly quite a bit of work but it really helps us measure progress which for me is massive - too often winter training can just drift with no real purpose - this helps to concentrate minds!  Can share a data table with you via PM if you'd like?

That could be interesting, thanks  :) Most of the 3D stuff is around lower back injuries in a more research sense as far as I've seen, as obviously very few performance setups have spangly 3D MOCAP or the people to run it. It's always interesting to see how the 2D bits get used, ta!
