A little bit of sidearm action from my practice session on Monday. Hopefully this works... - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-mgFVODF5m_7vheDh1SVSQlhv8aK6qUg/view  OR https://youtu.be/t81LT1dYE1Q

We did this for a little bit after taking some throwdowns and bobble feeds. Things I am trying to work on this winter:

- Hitting the ball later
- Engaging the bloomin' left side of my body (it's lazy, very lazy) particularly when leaving the ball but also when driving through the offside

Things I am taking from this to work on:

- Falling over a touch and missing out on deliveries outside of leg stump
- Bat coming down with a slightly angled face and therefore losing me some power

P.s I bat with a slightly open stance but with my backfoot lined up to point - it stays like that when I drive the ball...  ;)

Any tips or drills I could put into practice then please let me know - or anything you spot please flag it up. I am relatively comfortable with my game at the moment (knowing I score a lot on the onside and being happy with that has helped) but always looking to improve.

I guess you could say the classic getting the head a bit more towards/ into the ball on both sides on the less good shots. Your head and body are either quite static or falling forwards by the looks of things. The static bit is great when the ball comes to and gives you a nice compact defense but it means that you were hanging your bat out at the short and wide ones or leaving balls which could be put away, especially early on. Similar on the off side fuller balls where if it comes a bit away from where you are then you can hang the bat out a bit and get them but if the ball moves or is slightly wider you can get in trouble or miss out on runs for not getting across enough. Leg side you have the shots and timing around leg stump but again if your head isn't heading towards the ball then you seem to miss out on the ones slightly outside leg stump. Maybe the slight fall forwards is cutting you off and preventing you naturally opening up it is hard to see.

When those kind of things do gel the shots were really nice and it looks like you have loads of time. You looked good too when you loosened up at the end for some dirty slogging :D It seems like similar things you have already identified and the better shots seemed to be the ones where you get across nicely on the offside or move to the ball on the leg side a little more patiently and less falling over your front leg than the others perhaps. Take it all with a pinch of salt as I can't bat for toffee! :D

Hi Dan, many thanks for your thoughts, it's always good for me to hear about my game from others. I'll always listen to anyone as I think its quite easy to blinker yourself especially when in the moment, so thank you.

I think i'm going to keep working on really getting my head to the ball and hoping it drags my foot into place / gets him actually moving for the time being. I know my front foot starts on middle and when the ball is outside off gets to off stump for the majority of balls, even those drives outside of off. Looks like it's going to be lots of throwdowns without a bat and catching the ball at our next session on Thursday - get my head and feet going some more.

I think from watching myself back your point of just falling forwards is correct. I also think adding to it, that I am falling forwards towards a mid off area, rather than what would be preferential and falling towards (If i was to fall at all) the stumps at the other end.

It's always good to have a go at whacking a few at the end  :D we try to find balls that are swinging nicely out of the sidearm and play as a full innings when we can but when you know there is only a few left its good to get your hands through some. Thank you once again for your thoughts.
