Garrad & Flack custom
« on: May 13, 2020, 02:48:03 PM »

Hi all. So the final bat from my isolation purchases arrived today. This was ordered a few weeks back now prior to the GM players edition. Slight delay as the guys at G&F have been extending the workshop and at the time of ordering they had just started on that. This bat was based on a shape I saw @JTtaylor145 had. Now I believe this was a shape that a friend of his designed with Ed and has a slightly lower middle position than the Stock 2.20 shape that I shared and purchased a few weeks ago.

So this is 2.10 and Grade 2 English willow and like my other G&F bat is also a L540 length blade. I picked this for the sheer low density of the willow at just 4lb dead on prior to any shaping so this has allowed for a BIG bat maxing out the bat gauge but still be legal for when I become the oldest person to make a first class debut lol.
Edges are 39/40 mm toe is 23mm on the edge and 25mm at the centre of the toe with the shoulder being just 11mm do packing all the wood into the hitting area.

Looks wise its decent for a G2 with 7 grains that are fairly straight and clean on the face with some marbling on the back of the bat towards the toe. I also asked for a think handle to replicate my GM handles which to me are just perfect in terms of shape and feel so a large semi oval handle. Certainly delivered on this front and although the bat is medium weight at 2.10 it feels a good oz lighter. Set up as all my bats are with a single chevron grip.

Now this may be a controversial statement but I would honestly say the pressing on the G&F bats that I have had recently is as good as anyone on the market at the moment. When I first saw these bats as they are a Suffolk brand a few years ago the styling was spot on and shapes decent but all seemed very hard and didnt seem to sound or perform very well and really put me off.
I still wasnt convinced until I popped to see @JTtaylor145 last season to pick up a bat I had bought from him via eBay when he showed me his latest bat and as soon as I tapped it up it was obvious things had improved a hell of a lot. Now the controversial statement the 3 I have are pressed better to me than any Keeley I have had they are soft and responsive without being so soft that gentle knocking in or tapping up leaves marks and the middle is so long. Now just my opinion but I would rank these along side bats twice the price and then some for performance levels.

Yes. Weird statement I know but I have had for example a SS bat that was so soft gentle tapping up a quality used league ball left very visible seam marks. Had super response but was so soft it was battered and cracked all over after a couple of games.

Great review. Im also a fan of Garrard and Flack since purchasing a butterfly from JTTaylor145. I was so impressed by the gear that I also bought some Batting gloves and wicketkeeping gloves. Im not a keeper and never had been! Guess theyll just sit around for a few years until I find them a home.
