CT Lockdown Purchases
« on: June 03, 2020, 02:57:45 PM »

I have both acquired and parted with plenty of kit over the last few weeks but currently have the opportunity to net and it has given me great chance to actually use my kit most days.

The three of us that share the house leave a kit bag down the ground and manage a grass net regularly  - after they have helped on the pitch

The bag contains OLS blank pads, unbranded sausage gloves (from Dan on here I think), the world's smelliest Albion helmet and an RS combo thigh guard

Big son uses a Kook Concept 2.0 sourced from yet another fellow CBF member & the younger one uses a G2 Keeley 074... I have used the opportunity to road test some bats I normally just look at and waft around the sitting room. So I traded in my trusty SS net bat and tried something different.
This has led to some lesser spotted red marks appearing on bats - apparently this happens when you actually use them!!??

First up is Vulcan Merlin Original

I have had my eye on one of these for ages and eventually succumbed to a deal Dean posted on twitter

Weight - 2.9.8
Handle - Oval - not too skinny I only need one thick chevron grip
Edges - 38mm
Spine - 56mm
Swell - High - I discovered way to late in life I hit the ball higher up the bat than I am proud to admit

The finishing is second to none, I love the minimal stickers, I love the lamitoe even more and it's really well balanced with plenty of wood all over... light enough to manoeuvre but big enough to feel really confident with.

Now the good bit - it absolutely pings
I can assure you that this is not because I time the ball like a Bell/Pope hybrid but because it is really well pressed and forgiving with a large sweet spot.
Love the bow in the blade and the option to choose grip and add scuff was a nice touch too

I did think nothing would touch the HitsHard (review to follow) but crickey this is a very good bat

So this one came from YET ANOTHER forum member and all the way from Norway - thanks again @Kulli

Hits Hard G1 Mojo Super

Weight - 2.9.6
Handle - Thick slight oval
Edges - 42mm
Spine - 62mm
Swell - Mid (but long)

So I have never had a Salix made bat before but it's fair to say I have tried most other brands, I have always assumed, rather heretically, that most bats are really all about the same really but get better the more you use them and eventually just as they reach their zenith they break!!!

So I took this into the nets to face some gentle seamers with old balls and was incredibly careful... and either I was in particularly good nick or more likely this is a mighty fine stick!!!

It is big but light which always feels good in the hands and when you look down and after about 10 minutes of batting I was convinced - these are a bit special

A sucker for blank softs I picked these up after a recommendation on the bargain spots thread.

Lovely. Proper man size. Seem to offer great protection. Ive paid a lot more for a lot worse!!!

I picked up these balls from eBay - very good price, well made and last well with proud seams.

Wax finish not lacquer which annoyed the seamers - so no downside at all really.

Finally Ive picked up a couple of Bellingham & Smith bats
A G2 and a G3.

G3 has fibre scuff and is 2.7.5 with one grip.
G2 is still on its way... 2.10 and a proper looker.

Hithard are (were?) great bats, regret not buying one at the time. Prefer the shape to the actual Salix ones!

exercise to reduce breast size fast at home

Just fiddling around with the hitshard that Ive kept and Ive noticed its got no knob at the top of the handle (apart from the user)

Is this normal for Salix bats?

Its not been cut off - see length versus other bats
