Mark Wood....we love him but
« on: October 27, 2020, 08:18:57 PM »

Anyone who has heard his recent interviews will know, absolutely predictably far as I'm corncerned, thinks his future may just be limited overs cricket....

4 operations have taken their toll mentally and physically and whilst we all want to see him on the field it's impossible to imagine many more than his 16 matches in tests.

His action has always seemed way too much strain on the body so he busts a gut to get it down a quick as possible.

Make the most of watching him, I know I will, he's not going to be able to keep it up in the longer form and much as Root talks about them and Archer for the next Ashes it may not happen.

I think, yeah I know they are well paid, but massive kudos to Wood for keep coming back after surgery-that's admirable

He was available all summer but only selected once and has not been given a red ball contract.  It seems that he rejected the chance to play in the IPL this winter but given the reduction in his income he would be crazy not to take it up next year.  Given how low and slow most pitches we play on at home seem to be now with Chief Executives having to recover the cost of staging test matches, you would think his main use for England in red ball cricket will be away series.
