Published: Monday, November 10, 2008

The Sports HQ, one of Europes leading online sports and leisure e-tailers, has completed the purchase of Woodworm, the iconic cricket bat and golf company. Woodworms operations will be transferred from the companys current headquarters in Sussex to The Sports HQs base at Alvechurch near Birmingham.

We are constantly looking to purchase great sporting brands and are thrilled to have added a prestigious brand such as Woodworm, says Simon Millington, The Sports HQs chief executive. As a company we are passionate about developing the finest products and with our expertise in cricket and golf we believe we can take Woodworm to the next level.

Current players using Woodworm equipment include Australia fast bowler Brett Lee and West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo. Says Millington: We would like to deal with players who are on the up and who are going to be the future of the game."

So woodworm will still be around then. Wonder if Lee and Bravo will still use woodworm and if they do they will be on reduced fees.?

Has anyone ever bought anything off Sports HQ?  How did it go?

And, does anyone know what this means for Woodworm in terms of the major stores?  Will Sports HQ sell to those stores or is Sports HQ the only place you are going to be able to buy new Woodworm?

I bought a junior bat of them on Ebay, for my little brother. They just don't feel the same as the old ones. Very dissapointing really. The "Oval" handle is not even an Oval handle....the list goes on, just dissapointing. Not sure about the higher end models, they might be a different story.

A Mate has had 2 CAs off Sports HQ, both guns and good service/response time so I can't fault that!
